Urwerk ‘s latest timepiece is a truly out-of-this-world collector’s object that defies convention and perhaps even the very nature of timekeeping.
The brand’s new Urwerk UR-100V Lightspeed boasts a galactic-themed dial outfitted with a 3-D planetarium. Suffice to say, hardly a watchmaker on the planet would dream of such an endeavor, but Urwerk looks to have pulled it off.
The timepiece, while boasting a more traditional 43mm diameter case, shows how long it takes a ray of light from the sun to reach Earth, along with the surface of planets. If it reminds you of middle school science class, well, this display is far cooler than that.
It carries on the watchmaker’s focus on interstellar timepieces like the Space Black UR-120 or even its Star Trek-inspired watches, and this latest launch is an impossibly precise, impossibly cool homage to that modern lineage.
“The UR-100V takes us on a journey through both time and space, merging two concepts at the very core of URWERK,” the watchmaker said.
The actual timekeeping function of the watch runs on the lower half, displaying hours and minutes in the company’s trademark satellite, rotating display.
The rest of this futuristic dial is no less characteristic of Urwerk’s other next-level watches, with skeletonized construction and an open caseback that shows off its in-house UR 12.02 movement.
