Killer Mike’s Son Receives Kidney Transplant After 3-Year Wait

Rapper Killer Mike’s week has kicked off with some major victories!

As recently reported, the “Legend Has It” artist took home three wins during last night’s (Feb. 4) 66th Annual Grammy Awards. For those who didn’t get a chance to keep up with the ins-and-outs of the event, Killer Mike, real name Michael Santiago Render, scored Grammys for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for “Scientist & Engineers” and another gold-plated gramophone for Best Rap Album for his latest project “Michael.”

The congratulations that are in order for Killer Mike (and his family) don’t end with the Grammys. According to TMZ, the celeb is scheduled to be by his son’s side today (Feb. 5) as the 21-year-old receives a kidney transplant. Reportedly, Mikael “Pony Boy” Render has been waiting for a kidney match for three years.

During an interview that took place in November 2023, Killer Mike spoke about his son’s health and said,

“I remember having to fly back from being on the road to be there when he first got his ports doing analysis. And his mom thought it was important and I thought it was important that I be there because there’s certain things just a dad should do.”

He continued,

“When a mom on a day-to-day basis is there and doing her thing, when sh*t gets tough it’s really time for Dad to show up.”

After sharing that his son was eventually moved up on the kidney transplant waitlist, Killer Mike added,

“God is good in that I’ve been afforded a lifestyle in which I can afford the burden I’ve been given and I just want for my child to get that kidney and to just be free as a bird.”
