Iggy Azalea Insists She Wasn’t ‘Bullied’ From Music While Seemingly Revealing She’ll Be Stepping Away From Her Rap Career:’I’m Not Going To Finish My Album’
Sad day for Iggy Azalea fans.
The musician recently shared that she will no longer be making new music for the foreseeable future and made it clear the decision was not because of her critics.

In a lengthy message uploaded to her X account (formerly Twitter), Iggy Azalea, real name Amethyst Amelia Kelly, 33, wrote:
“I’ve always been someone who finds my joy in being creative & seeing my ideas come to life. For a long time I used music to deliver my big crazy ideas to the world. I know a lot of people have this idea that I was “bullied away from music” and that’s something I’ve always laughed at because I’d never be bullied out of anything! In fact, I’m too stubborn. I think I’ve even resisted changes within myself at times, purely because I don’t like being viewed as someone who quits.”
She continued:
“In truth what I’ve known for a long time is that I feel more passionately about design and creative direction than I do about song writing. To many of you that’s no shock to read. It shows in my work. Haha! Jokes aside, i do spend a lot more time on that part of things… because Im most confident at that. That’s why I want to let you know that I’m not going to finish my album.”
The “Fancy” artist went on to share that her upcoming album has been at a standstill for some time and she hasn’t “felt the urge to go back to it.” It seems the rap star has been involved in other creative pursuits, and said her decision to leave music is what’s “undeniably best.”
As we previously reported, Iggy was working with jailed musician Tory Lanez, who was executive producing her latest musical project before he was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
If you recall, the pair was rumored to be dating at the time, but things for Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, 31, came to a screeching halt as he stood trial for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion during an argument in 2020. Though he maintained his innocence, the Canadian native was found guilty on three felony charges and is currently serving out his sentence at the California Correctional Institution. He has since been attempting to appeal the decision, though his previous two motions for bail were denied.
As far as Iggy goes, many of her fans seem to be supportive of her decision. One social media user wrote:
“Sad but I understand. Can’t wait to see what you’re working on in the future”
While another added:
“Hi Iggy! I totally get this & I’m so excited for this new chapter! I’m glad you’ve found what you’re passionate about & even though I’d love to hear your new album, I’m really happy & excited to see what you’re going to do next I’m going to support you anyway. Love you always!”
Many others seem to share the same sentiment.
Iggy first broke into mainstream music back in 2014 after inking a deal with T.I.’s label Grand Hustle. Her debut studio project, “The New Classic,” peaked among the top five on several charts, but got mixed reviews from within the industry. She went on to release chart-topping singles such as “Fancy” and “Problem” – a song by Ariana Grande that she was featured on. Ultimately, she achieved notable success, but always fought criticism about her capabilities of being a true rapper and appropriating black culture.
At this time, it is unclear whether or not Iggy plans to release any of the music she’s already recorded for the now-paused album.
