HALLE BAILEY DISCUSSES HOW SHE’S CHANGED SINCE BECOMING A FIRST-TIME MOM

The one thing that is a common denominator for most first-time parents is change. During a GRAMMY U Masterclass talk, 23-year-old singer/actress Halle Bailey discusses just how she has changed since becoming a first-time mom to son, Halo.

“I feel like I’ve reached this new level of maturity, especially being a mother now, which is so crazy to say,” Bailey shared. “It has opened up a whole new can of worms for me, honestly. I am obsessed with my baby. It’s insane.”

“It’s literally like your heart is in your hands in this beautiful being,” Bailey added, speaking to the crowd of holding her child. “I just feel like I have such greater purpose and so much more to do for him and so much more that I want him to be able to experience. It gives me a new motivation and drive and passion for myself, for my family, for my life.”

Lately, Bailey has been the source of a lot of post-pregnancy criticism. Many have been saying that The Color Purple star “lied” about being pregnant. One example of such criticism comes from @EchoDoesRadio. The social media user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the singer gaslight followers about her pregnancy.

“I don’t think people are mad she hid her pregnancy. People are more so annoyed that she went out of her way to lie and gaslight about it. Then, she shaded people and called them desperate. Now, she wants those same “desperate” people to know every little detail.”

The “Angel” singer responded to the accusation saying that, “I never lied or even said anything about it, honey. Making a joke about my nose was the farthest I went. I’ll never understand why you are mad i protected my own peace, wouldn’t you do the same? and i’m gonna share my pics now if i want to because my son is here safely, if u don’t wanna see it just keep scrolling baby lol God bless you!”

Fast-forward to now a few weeks after that particular exchange and Bailey said in the Masterclass talk that she is doing her best to try and stay off of social media. The singer said that for right now, not engaging is key for her.

“I feel like I have learned how to balance it, really by shutting the world out,” she stated. “So that’s my first step. I shut out the opinions of other people when it comes to social media, Twitter or Instagram. I just have to not read anything. I have to turn it off. We’re sensitive human beings. I love to hear people say nice things about me, and if I see one thing that hurts my feelings, I’m gonna cry.”

She concluded, “I just ignore it, ignore it, ignore it. If somebody says something I don’t like, I’m turning the other way.”

Bailey and her boyfriend DDG welcomed their first child together towards the end of 2023.
