Gillian Anderson Made a Feminist Statement at the Golden Globes

And more celebs who proved age was the best asset on the red carpet.

Have you ever had that dream where you’ve gone to an important event, but your lady parts are exposed? Well on the Golden Globes 2024 red carpet, Gillian Anderson is living it and she looks absolutely fabulous.

At first glance, the Sex Education star’s look is straightforward: a white strapless dress and red bag by Gabriela Hearst, accessorized with some simple (well, as simple as diamonds can actually be!) Chopard jewels and a handbag by Aquazzura. But upon closer inspection, you’ll be sure to notice a faint pattern adorning the fabric. Not polka dots. No stripes. But vaginas. Lots and lots of vaginas.

According to the actress the gown was embroidered with the female anatomy as a way of protesting restrictions to women’s rights.”[I wore it] for so many reasons,” the actress told Deadline. “It’s brand appropriate.”

And while we LOVE a heavy dose of feminism when it comes to fashion, many fans are also speculating that it’s Anderson’s tribute to the final season of Sex Education. After all, why not kill two birds with one stone?

But if you think she was the only 50+ starlet to kill the red carpet, let us enlighten you.

Taking a similarly minimalist approach, Julianne Moore proved redheads should always coordinate their hair colour to their dress, with a custom Bottega Veneta ensemble.

And Sheryl Lee Ralph continued to prove why she’s the ultimate icon, in a black and yellow number. And there were so many more eye-catching looks!

While aging is usually a bad word in Hollywood, Gillian Anderson at the Golden Globes just proves that like a good steak, good style takes time to marinate.  And after the dozens and dozens of red carpets that these women have collectively walked, why not use your platform to make a political statement? Especially during a time where women’s rights have never been more in danger. No naked nightmares here.
