DWYANE WADE SHARES DAUGHTER ZAYA WASN’T AT FIRST EXCITED ABOUT HIS OSCAR NOM, THEN SHE WAS

Many celebrity off-spring don’t necessarily see their parents in the same light as we do. When we are excited about a celebrity accomplishment, for their children, at most times, it is just another day. Well, recently in an exclusive interview with People Magazine, NBA legend Dwayne Wade shares that his daughter, Zaya, wasn’t at first excited about his Oscar nomination, then she was.

The 42-year-old told the outlet that when he told his family about the Academy Award nomination in the Best Documentary Short category for the 2023 documentary, The Barber of Little Rock, all that his family initially said was, “That’s cool.”

Wade went on in his interview to detail his 16-year-old daughter’s priceless reaction over dinner.

“I was having dinner with Zaya, my 16-year-old daughter, and I was like, ‘Oh, let me share. Let’s have a little cheers moment. Share some news that your dad is nominated for an Oscar with his production company.’ And she was like, ‘Really? For what?’”

“And I shared with her that it was Barber of Little Rock, and she said, ‘Wait a minute. My friends have been talking about it. They’ve watched it, they’ve seen it.’”

So, basically, Wade’s nomination was simply just “cool,” until Zaya realized that her friends had already given it their seal of approval…a definite adorable teenage reaction moment.

Wade concluded his story stating that the moment he shared with his daughter was indeed priceless because he got the opportunity to show how he and his company are choosing to feature stores that are meaningful and make an impact.

“So that was a cool moment to be able to let my daughter know that I’m on that side of the world, and we’re telling some, and highlighting some really cool stories that are meaningful and impactful.”

If you have yet to see The Barber of Little Rock, and want to know what it is all about, check out a brief description below from IMDb.com of what to expect.

The Barber of Little Rock explores America’s widening racial wealth gap through the story of Arlo Washington, a local barber whose visionary approach to a just economy can be found in the mission of People Trust, the nonprofit community bank he founded. Experiencing the effects of generational poverty and structural racism firsthand, Arlo understands his hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas and the profound mistrust of financial institutions that have historically excluded his community from financial stability and economic mobility. Operating as the sole bank within a ten-mile radius, Arlo’s People Trust fosters economic progress for underserved and underbanked residents, providing an economic beacon of hope that could reshape the future of banking.

The 96th Annual Academy Awards will be held on March 10, 2024 at 6:00 PM CDT. You can watch all of the action live on ABC.
