Don Lemon Will Reportedly Get $24.5 Million Payout From CNN After Being Ousted From The Network

Don Lemon is getting paid what he’s owed after being fired from CNN.

The former network’s prime-time host will reportedly receive approximately $24.5 million in a separation deal with the long-time news network. According to reports, that’s how much Don Lemon would have made if he was allowed to stay on at CNN through the end of his contract, which was supposed to end in 2026.

After over a decade with the network, CNN fired the longtime anchor after he apologized for on-air comments about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley being past her prime. The comments were made during a February discussion on “CNN This Morning” with co-hosts Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins about the ages of politicians.

In addition to his comment about 52-year-old Nikki Haley not being “in her prime,” Don Lemon also said,

“A woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.”

Lemon then dismissed the objections of his female co-hosts, adding,

“I’m just saying what the facts are — Google it.”

According to reports, then-CEO Chris Licht sent a memo to CNN staff a message, calling Lemon’s comments “unacceptable.” Chris Licht said he talked with Lemon, who later apologized on-air and was set to participate in formal training sessions.

Chris Licht also noted at the time,

“It is important to me that CNN balances accountability with… fostering a culture in which people can own, learn and grow from their mistakes.”

Despite his apology, Licht announced CNN and Don Lemon had parted ways.

The former CNN host announced the news on his X account, explaining that he learned of his firing from his agent.

“I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought someone in management would have the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.”

CNN disputed Lemon’s account and said the anchor “was offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

Lemon joined CNN in 2006. Before “CNN This Morning,” he hosted the prime-time show “Don Lemon Tonight” for more than eight years. Lemon gained significant fame during the presidency of Donald Trump for his blunt commentary about the former president.

In the coming weeks, Lemon will launch his own show, “The Don Lemon Show,” on X.
