Beyoncé’s New Single ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart + Singer Makes History w/ Latest Entry

Beyoncé’s transition to the country music genre is off to a successful start.

According to Billboard, music sensation Beyoncé makes her debut appearance on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart (dated Feb. 24) with “Texas Hold ‘Em” landing at No. 1 and “16 Carriages” securing the 9th spot.

It’s also reported that “Texas Hold ‘Em” amassed 19.2 million official streams and garnered a total airplay audience of 4.8 million across all formats, with sales reaching 39,000 in the U.S. as of Feb. 15. Meanwhile, “16 Carriages” arrived with 10.3 million streams, a radio reach of 90,000, and sales of 14,000.

Both songs were released on Feb. 11, as revealed in a Verizon commercial broadcasted during CBS’ airing of Super Bowl LVIII. The releases precede the anticipated March 29 arrival of Beyoncé’s upcoming album, which is suspected to be entitled “Act II.”

Remarkably, Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” claiming the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart marks her seventh No. 1 across various Billboard song charts as a solo artist. These include the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Hot Gospel Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Hot R&B Songs, and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. When it comes to this diverse array of rankings, Beyoncé stands as the sole artist to have achieved No. 1s on all of them.

Additionally, Beyoncé makes history as the first woman to top both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since their inception as comprehensive genre song charts in October 1958. In doing so, she’s now in the company of other beloved artists such as Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Ray Charles.

As previously reported, KYKC, a country music radio station in Oklahoma, faced criticism after reportedly refusing a fan’s request to play “Texas Hold ‘Em” on-air. Beyoncé’s dedicated fan base quickly mobilized, however, with numerous individuals reaching out to the station to express their concerns about its controversial decision.

After facing criticism, a KYKC rep from the station responded with a statement provided to TheShadeRoom. The rep said,

“I think we issued just a generic reply when we should have been more detailed. If someone emailed our country station and requested a Rolling Stones song we would have probably replied the same. Beyonce’ is known for NOT being a country artist, so we just replied to that effect.”

Additionally, the rep stated,

“We do play the song on our Top 40 station, KXFC, but haven’t added it yet to our country station. We are big Beyonce’ fans here and really hope it does well, as we like seeing new artists get into the format.”

Subsequent to this statement, TMZ revealed that the radio station aired “Texas Hold ‘Em” for the first time on the afternoon of February 13.
