50 Cent Reacts To Terrence Howard Revealing He Only Made $12,000 For ‘Hustle & Flow’: ‘This Sh*t Hurt My Stomach To Hear’

50 Cent is ready to hire Terrence Howard for the Power Universe.

On Thursday (Feb. 15), the multi-hyphenate reposted an interview of the Empire alum revealing he made $12,000 for his leading role in Hustle & Flow. He added,

“And then on top of it what Paramount did, instead of putting my name as Terrence Howard performing the songs, they put ‘performed by [my character] DJay.’”

Breaking down the behind-the-scenes of the business, Terrence Howard added,

“They owned DJay, so guess what? The performance royalties went to Paramount … So now I gotta sue Paramount. I gotta send them a letter to say ‘Hey, you guys owe me about 20 years worth of residuals and performance royalties.’”

He shared why he agreed to the controversial deal and confessed,

“I was just trying to pay my rent. I made $6,000 doing ‘Crash.’ The business don’t pay actors anything, that’s why the strike is going on, actors are struggling.”

Giving a nod to the hit song from the 2005 film, Howard confirmed it’s “hard out here for a pimp,” adding,

“unless you do it right.”

(The song It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2006. Howard was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role that year.)

50 Cent shared his comments on Howard’s revelation and confessed in the caption of his post,

“This sh*t hurt my stomach to hear @theterrencehoward say this.”

He continued,

“fvck em ? I need the best actors and I’m gonna pay them.”

He then name-dropped Howard’s Hustle & Flow and Empire co-star Taraji P. Henson, who has also called out pay disparities among Black actors and women in Hollywood, and said the younger stars of his Power shows are bringing in millions.

While promoting The Color Purple film in December, Taraji P. Henson became emotional as she opened up about being underpaid despite working extremely hard. She was speaking with Gayle King, who asked her about speculation that she was thinking about leaving Hollywood. Fighting back tears, Henson responded,

“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, getting paid a fraction of the cost. I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over. You get tired.”

She continued in part,

“I’m only human….It seems every time I do something, I break another glass ceiling when it’s time to renegotiate I’m at the bottom again like I never did what I just did and I’m just tired…It wears on  you…cause what does that mean? What does that tell me?…and if I can’t fight for them coming up behind me then what the f*ck am I doing?”
